Since November, and every 2-3 weeks or so...
.... we break down and go for an All-You-Can-Eat feasts at
Aji Sushi 667 Reid St, Peterborough, ON K9H 4H8
Yes, I know, it is a chain.
Yes, I know, maybe not the very BEST sushi in Peterborough....
But is is very nearby, and the lunch price makes it very worthwhile for big eaters such as Mike and Robi, and fun for me to be there because of the great variety of sushi we can sample.
I would not go there for only two people: it becomes difficult to have a variety and eat it all. This being said, the time we did go only two of us, we got to 'purchase' the last 10 pieces we could not eat, and brought them back home for Mike, who was too sick to come out. This worked out great.
We always make sure to order the edamame (warm, salted fresh soy beans in the pods), and some sort of tempura (I like the sweet potato and asparagus). We stay away from deep fried sushi, or those that contain cream cheese (I find that concept repulsive). I always make sure to have a few of the true sushi (fish on top of rice) which they make very well.
Note on Sushi in Peterborough: Everyone used to agree to Matsu was the best. Matsu expanded and opened on Hunter, while the location on Park was sold. Matsu on Hunter now has also been sold. My opinion is that the location on Hunter went seriously downhill, and I've had a couple of times when sushi on a platter were made from rice that was dry and cold, not good at all. Party Platters are made with a lot of 'cheap' rolls of cucumber and carrots, rolls becoming smaller and smaller. The parks street location is much better. I have been sick twice after eating at Madoi (on George street), and so will not go back there. I find Hoshi to be the very best sushi in Peterborough, but I have not tried Hockey Sushi out on Landsdowne west.
